The tree is of a moderate size. It is normally found in a dry deciduous forest or evergreen depending on its habitat. It is the most widely distributed throughout India, covering the entire Indian peninsula. One of its distinguishing characteristics is the pelican-colored bark that peels in rectangular scales. Elliptic-oblong leaves can be opposing or alternating, leathery, and up to 32 cm long. When young, they are velvety on both sides, but as they mature, they become greenish and tough. The flowering and fruiting periods are April-May and March-April respectively -
