Large bush or small tree, to 7 mi n tall; branches pale pale yellowish pubescent Leaves ovule- rhomboid or deltoid-ovoid, chartaceous, base truncate or subcordate, margin coarsely crenate-dentate, apex acute or obtusely acute; lateral nerves ca 4 pairs, clearly marked beneath, petiole to 2.3 cm. Flowers moderate sized, scented in dichotomous, axillary or terminal cymose panicles; bracts lanceolate, leafy, 5 mm; culyx campanulate, ovate lanceolate, to 1 cm, acuminate; corolla white or purplish, tube to 2.2 cm long, hairy without, limb 5-lobed, lobes elliptic, obtuse, prominently nerved, subequal, to 8 mm long, stamens 4, exserted, inserted on the corolla tube. filament pairs 2 and 2.3 cm long; anthers oblong, 2.5 mm, greyish; ovary globose, 2 mm, style to 3.7 cm long. stigma 2-fid. Drupe obovoid, 4-lobed, black, to 1 cm long, with accrescent calyx lobes.
Common throughout, in hedges near my villages.

Flower fragrant at night.
