Caption: Abrus precatorius एक बारहमासी बेल है जिसकी पतली और मृदु पत्तियां होती हैं। इसके फूल हल्के गुलाबी या बैंगनी रंग के होते हैं, जो गुच्छों में खिलते हैं। इस पौधे के फल फली के रूप में आते हैं, जिसमें 3-8 बीज होते हैं। गुंजा के बीज लाल रंग के होते हैं, जिनके एक सिरे पर काला धब्बा होता है। ये बीज अपनी चमकदार सुंदरता के कारण आभूषणों और माला बनाने में उपयोग किए जाते हैं। औषधीय महत्व गुंजा का उपयोग आयुर्वेद, सिद्ध और यूनानी चिकित्सा पद्धतियों में प्राचीन काल से होता आ रहा है। हालांकि इसके बीजों में एब्रिन नामक जहरीला तत्व पाया जाता है, लेकिन इसके औषधीय उपयोग प्रभावी हैं।
